2 weeks in Cork

An idyllic location

An adorable cat

"Have they gone yet?"

Ryanair flight – carry-on only. Not easy when doing back to back sits for a month!

Having met with the homeowner and pet, we spent the eve of our sit at The Address  Cork, a hotel  which we highly recommend.

There was a  McGettigans Irish bar and restaurant on site, with prices considerably lower than the  McGettigans in our previous sit in DubiaNo complaints, just an observation.  We were happy to exhange  exotic palms for beautiful heather – both a sight for sore eyes.

Heritage Pub Trail

Sin É unfortunately no photos. Traditional pub with Irish music and good beer.

Crane Lane Theatre – another traditional pub. Lots of indie tunes and as we visited late afternoon, very few customers to detract from the decor and the beer

Cork Heritage Pub Trail (cont)

The Mutton Inn

This was our favourite pub from the Heritage Trail. We visited an a Sunday afternoon and had the snug to ourselves – always a bonus. We just loved the decor and candle lighting. Not to mention the stout. So we had a second pint. Just to make sure.

The Titanic Experience

Took us a while to find Triskel Christchurch hidden down a town centre alleyway with rather an underwhelming facade. Once inside,  you will appreciate the beauty of this restored 1700s Neo-classical Georgian church, now an arts centre, cinema and music venue.

The trio produced an ecletic mix of traditional Irish jigs and Congalise folk songs. Designed to push the boundaries between folk, jazz rock and classical.

Comfortable seats (plush church pews) with plenty of room. The artists perform on what was once an alter. And I was fortunate (or otherwise!) to watch a solid white orb, tinged with gold, with my naked eye, drift between myself and Allen. Whether it was a resident spirit or a spirit who accompanied us, we rally don’t know!

The Firkin Crane

Beautiful historcal building, a stones throw from where we were staying.

Located at the foot of the Shandon Bells, it serves as a theatre and dance studio.

We attended a concert on the penultimate day of our sit. To be truthful, it wasn;t for us, so we leeft at the interval.

Cork City Gaol

19th century  prison, where the emphasis was very much on reform.

A couple of euros over admission price to join the guided tour. Enthusiastic guide with a great sense of humour and pride. Definitely worth far more than the asking price.

What a difference...
