9 nights at Bracegarth Cottage. We stayed at the northernmost part of the island, surrounded by lochs, sea and felds. it was the ideal place to recharge our batteries, catch up on paperwork, lose ourselves in books and pursue our creative endeavours.

Sanday Community Shop
With a population of less than 500, Sanday has an enormous sense of community spirit. The local shop, sells everything under the sun. Every taste and requirement is catered for on Sanday

Sanday Heritage Centre
Sanday Heritage Centre on the outskirts of Lady Village, displays some of Sanday’s natural and man-made treasures and showcases some of the community’s history.
Loved the clothing exhibits and imagining the everyday life of the people that wore them.
Restoration projects, Sanday community playing fields
The burnt mound at Meur, on Sanday, Orkney, was first noticed after a severe storm in 2005 exposed a stone cist-like box. It was first thought it was a burial so a team of archaeologists was sent in to investigate. The excavation revealed that this site wasn’t a burial monument at all, but a burnt mound dating to the Bronze Age, with a beautiful stone trough built of huge upright slabs. As well as the trough, the excavation uncovered stone paving, two stone compartments, a cistern for holding water, and piles of burnt stone… (SCAPE)
